What is the GPCo?
The GPCo is a Limited Liability Partnership between Blackpool GP Partners and Assura Medical. The GPCo is a 50:50 joint venture partnership is led by a Clinical Management Board (CMB) comprising of local GPs, a Business Director and one representative from Assura.
GPs are not paid to refer patients into services run by the GPCo. In line with Department of Health policy, patients are given a choice of at least four providers at the point of referral and should they choose to be referred into a service run by the GPCos, the referrer must declare that they have a commercial interest in the GPCo provider organisation.
